Mandra Rossa Fiano 2002

Date: 22 April 2006
Venue: Cova Restaurant, Causeway Bay

Brian (the white guy in the photo, make no mistake), ex-Mr. Australia is passing through Hong Kong enroute to USA. He made a come-back last year in the Mr. Australia contest after several years' absence from the scene, placing second in the heavy weight division. He is currently 130kg, with a 60" chest and 22" biceps. Brian is in the bulking up phase but despite the bloated appearance of his abdomen, his rectus abdominus (6-packs) are clearly visible. The big belly is not due to subcutaneous fat. His next contest will be in October, he plans to start his cutting up cycle in a couple of months. In the mean time, he is not on any special diet so dinner at a regular restaurant is alright.

We had dinner at Cova, a fine Italian restaurant in the heart of Causeway Bay. The wine was one of the house white. The nose was fruity and perfumed. It tasted quite sweet, with peach, apple and almond notes. Mixed entrees included parma ham and rock melon, smoked duck breast with cheese and truffle, and various pan-fried mushrooms. Main course was "Risotto with seafood and champagne oysters". We finished off with "Combination Gelati and Sorbetti".

Les Tuileries 2003

Date: 1 April 2006

According to the label, this wine won the Medaille D'OR Paris 2004. It contains merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc.

Smoky oak, hint of plum with mild animalistic character on the nose. Palate was lean but clean with a little spice. Fresh, elegant finish.
