This burgundy was certainly a pleasant surprise. We had downed a bottle of Moet & Chandon Rose Champagne before trying this little known (to us) red. It was recommended to Andrew by his trusted wine supplier. Colour was dark dense red, not what you'd expect of a burgundy, more like a bordeaux. The nose was aromatic with floral notes, spicey cherry and a hint of freshly mowned grass. Palate was smooth and brimming with dark fruit. We had 'Poon Choi" from Hung Sing Restaurant, which literally means food served in a bucket/basin, a traditional New Territory fare. There were abalone, sea cucumber, various poultries, BBQ pork, ox tongue, cantonese meat balls, dried oysters et al neatly packed in a ceramic pot (rather than in a steel basin as in the original authentic form) filled with oyster abalone sauce. I half expected the strong flavour of the food to overwhelm the burgundy but the match was perfect. Finish of the wine was subdued and elegant.
